Lost @ home

“Traveling – It gives you home in thousand strange places, then leaves you a stranger in your own land.”

. . .

You see, feeling homesick in another country, brings back the memories about things missed from home. But, feeling homesick at home, is confusing because you’re home, so you think you should feel fine. But, deep down there’s something missing; it feels like the other country became your “home away from home”.
So, no matter where you are, you feel homesick because everywhere you’ve been is home in some way.

“Everywhere feels like home in it’s own way.”
That’s a sign of a well-traveled adventurer —
when you feel at home in every country you’ve ever visited!

*Traveling abroad helps you find yourself in so many different countries!*

. . .

Personally, I love traveling so I can learn about new cultures, new languages, discover new places in the world, and discover new things about myself.
And, the more I’ve traveled, the more I’ve realized that there is one downside to always wanting to travel and explore the world — *You eventually start to find yourself in all those countries. And, then, when you come home, you feel lost in your own hometown.*

And, that is a difficult, yet inevitable things to adjust to about traveling abroad.
When you start to travel abroad, you start to find yourself in other countries & you start to loose yourself at home. But, that’s when you need to realize why traveling is so amazing.
One day, you are going to wake up and realize that all your adventures were worth it because you will feel like the whole world has become your home, and you will realize that wherever you are in the world you will feel at home.

When the world starts to feel like your home; that’s when you know that you need to continue to travel — To continue to get to know the world and make international connections, so that whenever you feel homesick from that country, you can go back there as if it were home!

Thanks for reading!
Now, get out there & go explore the world & make the world your home!

Breathe…

~ INHALE ~
~ EXHALE ~
~ REPEAT ~

. . .

Oxygen is very important! So, don’t forget to take it in.
Get rid of all that carbon dioxide inside your lungs & replace it with fresh oxygen.

. . .

When you’re sad; breathe.
When you’re stressed; breathe.
When you’re angry; breathe.
When you’re anxious; breathe.
When you’re nervous; breathe.
When you’re hungry; breathe.
When you’re thirsty; breathe.
When you’re tired; breathe.
When you’re…. well, just about how ever you feel, breathe.
It will always help, and it always feels good to have fresh oxygen in your lungs.
Just take a few minutes (even seconds) each day to breathe.
It’s such a simple thing, but sometimes we don’t realize how seriously important it really is to just take a deep breath.
So, if you ever feel stressed, anxious, nervous, angry, sad, etc; just remember to stop for a minute and take a deep breath.

That’s all for this post. But, before you click away, just stay right where you are & read the following 6 short tasks. And, do what they say:

BREATHE IN (hold for 3 seconds)
BREATHE OUT (for 3 seconds)
BREATHE IN (hold for 3 seconds)
BREATHE OUT (for 3 seconds)
BREATHE IN (hold for 3 seconds)
BREATHE OUT (for 5 seconds)

Thanks for reading!

I hope this post helped you take a minute to chill & just breathe today.

I have a question…

I said that phrase SO MANY (more like TOO MANY) times when I was living in Chile.

Or, at least, that’s what I told myself because I thought I was getting annoying, but, turns out people didn’t mind answering my questions; and I learned so much by asking all those questions during those 3 months.

Ask all the questions you could possibly ask in a day. It’s the only way you’ll learn and remember anything!

Asking questions will get you so much farther than thinking you know everything ever will!

This post: Una Publicación en Español

Was not just written overnight. It took 3 months of hard work and dedication.

You see, I lived in Chile for 3 months and asked way more than 10 questions per day about the language and culture. And, I did my best to speak Spanish as much as I could, whenever I could. And, one day, a few weeks before I was set to depart, my chilean family told me that my Spanish had improved since they first met me, months ago. And, they told me that I speak well (when I finally have enough courage to say something), which made me happy and proud of myself because it was the moment I realized it was all worth it, and that I definitely wanted to continue learning Spanish. So, I decided to write a short post to show myself how far I came in those 3 months full of questions and doubts (those questions and doubts led to fluency).

At first, I was super afraid of being judge for my accent and my knowledge of the language because whenever I didn’t know something I didn’t feel worthy to speak the language. And, so, for the first few weeks I didn’t say much, I just observed. And, soon after, I decided to start asking people about the things I didn’t know. And, whether or not I got a serious answer, I would inevitably learn something, everyday. So, I did this everyday, for 3 months. And, by the end, I was having conversations in Spanish.

I spoke Spanish.

I heard Spanish.

I saw spanish.

I listened to music in Spanish.

I watched movies in Spanish.

I participated in Spanish conversations.

I lived in a Spanish country; I lived Spanish (Chilean), for 3 months.

Instead of telling myself that I wasn’t worthy of speaking the language or that I would just be made fun of, so I shouldn’t try to learn the language; I told myself to ask at least 1 question per day (that quickly turned into 10). And, before I knew it I was becoming fluent in Spanish.

So, my point in sharing that story was to tell you that, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel dumb, and you feel like you’re not worthy of knowing the answer, or you’re scared of not being good enough; just start Asking all the questions and Learn something new everyday!

Thanks for reading! And remember:

You must strive to better yourself everyday because you’ll soon realize that, deep down, you knew the answers all along.

A little goes a long way!

$1 CDN = $500 CLP

. . .

So, 2 months ago I was living in Chile and the last time I went to the bank to get money for some souvenirs, I thought about how much money/souvenirs I wanted.
And, since the bank machines were in Chilean pesos I had to do the math, converting Chilean pesos to Canadian dollars.
And, while looking at the bank machine screen, thinking about how much Canadian $ I wanted to withdraw from my account, I realize that even if I only took $50 that would equal $25,000 pesos, which I know could buy quite a bit of souvenirs.

And, that’s when it hit me.

$1 a day can actually go a long way!
Those campaigns aren’t lying?
Wait, what!?

. . .

And, because of this moment, I thought of those sponsor child companies and how I always thought their $1/day marketing strategies seemed crazy and unreasonable because I always thought: “What could $1 really do? I mean seriously, you can barely buy a chocolate bar with a dollar; What is a child in another country going to do with it?”.

Well, let me just say that after taking this money for some souvenirs, I bought a lot of souvenirs (and I still had money left). And, I, now, know that in another country a dollar can actually buy a lot.

For example: 1 dollar in Chile is worth about 500 pesos And, with 500 pesos in Chile, you can buy a drink and a chocolate bar (and still have some change left).

So, those campaigns that tell you that sponsoring a child for $1/day can make a difference, are actually telling the truth, which took me a second to believe, but they’re right. …What!?

Think about it: If you give someone $1 for an entire months (and they save it); by the end of the month, they’ll have $30, which they can use for extra things (like clothes, school, things they probably couldn’t afford to buy with money from their income because of, well, you know…bills.

. . .

That’s all.
I don’t, in any way, want to guilt you into donating. I’m only sharing this because when I finally realized the worth of $1, I was shook. And, I just wanted to share my realization that those dollar a day sponsor campaigns actually really do make a difference in someone else’s life in another country.
One dollar, for someone in another country would enable them to buy the small daily necessities, and save the money they make (which is probably about $1 a day) for bills, like a house and an education. In some countries, education is not even free (that education could enable them to get a better job)!

Thanks for reading!
I’ll leave you with this question that I asked myself when I realized this:
Who knew $1 could actually make such a difference?

And, if you’re still not convinced (like I was), go to another country (with a certain amount of money for the month) and set yourself a budget. And, try to also notice those around you, and observe the difference between their daily lifestyle and yours.

A lot of people live off of $1 a day, so your donations would help them a lot.
It would literally double their income!

Apologies & Promises (A Letter)

*I’m writing this for Mother’s Day, but it can also work for Father’s Day.*
It can pretty much work for any day (i just recently got inspired).

Dear mom / dad (or anyone else),

I just want to apologize for some things:

I’m sorry for ever letting you down.
I’m sorry for ever doubting you.
I’m sorry for ever being scared.
I’m sorry for ever letting fear & doubt take over.
I’m sorry for all the times I hurt you.
I’m sorry for all the times I failed when you believed in me.
I’m sorry for ever being inconsistent without valid reason.
I’m sorry for ever lying to you.
I’m sorry for ever taking you for granted.
I’m sorry for ever offending you.
I’m sorry for not always trusting you.
I’m sorry for ever giving up on you when things got tough.
I’m sorry for ever yelling at you.
I’m sorry for ever rejecting your love.
I’m sorry for ever rejecting your grace.
I’m sorry for ever tarnishing your faith in me.
I’m sorry for ever breaking your trust.
I’m sorry for ever walking away.
I’m sorry for ever not being good enough.
I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused you.
I’m sorry for ever rejecting you.
I’m sorry for not being the best child you could of asked for.
I’m sorry for ever…ything! – I am so sorry for everything!

Now, I want to promise some things:

I promise to always trust & have faith in you.
I promise to never let you down again.
I promise to face all my fears.
I promise to be more consistent.
I promise to always tell you the truth.
I promise to never take you for granted anymore.
I promise to love you forever without conditions.
I promise to accept your amazing love & grace.
I promise to never walk away again.
I promise to try to be good enough.
I promise to not cause you anymore pain.
I promise to be the best child that I can be.
I promise to all those things from the bottom of my heart.
One last promise: I promise to try my very best to keep all those promises because I, now, understand your unconditional love for me.

So, all there is to say now is: Thank You!
Thank you for always loving me, no matter what. I wouldn’t be who I am today without you. Thank you for never doing to me what I did to you. You are truly amazing. You are my role-model. You make me want to be the best version of myself.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

I hope this letter encouraged you because we all have things to apologize for (to someone), & we should all make more promises that we actually try to keep.
And, we all need to start saying; “Thank You” more often.
-If you can relate to anything above, comment below with the apology, promise or thank you that you would say to your mom or dad (or someone else).

-LiveForAdventure! 🙂

P.S. This letter was originally intended to be: A Prayer to God, but while writing it, I realized that it can work for anyone because apologies, promises, & thank you’s are very underrated in today’s world & we need more of them.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I recently discovered this song & thought it was the perfect Mother’s Day song, so I wanted to share it for all the Mothers out there (especially mine)!

. . .

Here are the lyrics:
(if you want to listen to the song, the link to the video is below the lyrics).

I think you’re the prettiest girl
Probably in the whole wide world
Sometimes I watch you brush your hair
You don’t even know I’m there

And I hear, “Baby, you don’t wanna catch a cold”
As you’re kneeling down and zipping up my coat
You’re always looking out for me, but your kiss upon my cheek
Keeps me warmer than you know

I’ve never had to find out what it’s like to be alone
And as far as I know “mom” is just another word for home
They say I’m the spitting image of the one I look up to, and I just smile
‘Cause anyone can see it’s true
I’m becoming me because of you

Chocolate ice cream melting down my chin
Ferris wheel goes round and round again
Happy birthday, make a wish
Can it always stay like this

Finally kissed those training wheels goodbye
But you’ve always made me feel like I could fly
And when I fall and scrape my knee the first one running after me is you
Saying, “Give it one more try”

I’ve never had to find out what it’s like to be alone
And as far as I know “mom” is just another word for home
They say I’m the spitting image of the one I look up to, and I just smile
‘Cause anyone can see it’s true
I’m becoming me because of you

And every morning I can hear you talk to Jesus by your bed
Well, you pray for me and for the strength to face the day ahead
And more than anything in this whole world I wanna be like you
So, I talk to Jesus too

I smell cookies baking in the kitchen
And you’ll be calling me down any minute
So, I guess I’d better go, I just wanted you to know
Anyone can see it’s true
I’m becoming me because of you
Because of you
Because of you

Surroundings… (Weekend Coffee Share)

Have you ever just sat somewhere and just observed your surroundings?

. . .

Ya, me neither.
…Until a few hours ago…

And, that’s what I’m gonna talk about in this weekend’s coffee share because a few days ago I saw this one-word prompt idea, and the word was surroundings. So, during that day, I couldn’t help but observe my surroundings. And, here’s what I noticed:

. . .

1- I was just sitting on the bus, when I realized that I never actually notice my surroundings. I’m usually just looking out the window, listening to music & waiting to arrive at my stop; just like most of the people I’m noticing right now.

2- I’m seeing all these people on the bus, heading to different places, with a different purpose.
They’re all, either, reading the newspaper, reading a book, texting, listening to music, sleeping, eating breakfast, etc.

3- I’m hearing some people talk about their week, if they know each other from seeing each other everyday.

4- I’m realizing that we are all sitting (or standing, if it’s crowded) on this bus for the same reason (to get somewhere).

5- All I can really understand is that we all need to get somewhere, & we don’t want to drive, or we don’t own a car.

6- I feel weird watching people because no one really interacts (except for the handful of people that do). But, I guess everyone is in their own world, so they won’t even notice someone starring at them (I’m not really starring, just glancing at people around me). They probably don’t even know I’m looking at them.

7- From watching everyone, I’m starting to just realize that we’re all just tired from our day & we just want to get home (Or it’s too early to interact with other humans).

All this, noticing my surroundings in this bus, got me thinking; What if the bus was free, & the only catch was that you had to talk to someone until your stop (at least just say hi)?

Just for some insight…
Where I live, the bus cost is $2.50. And, most people take the bus twice a day (to and from work), at least 5 to 6 days per week. That’s $25-$30 dollars every week. Which adds up to $100-$120 dollars per month.

So, in other words, everyone on this bus spends around $100 every month to sit and stare out the window. But, I now realize that it’s cheaper than gas for your car; and you’re technically saving the environment.

So, observing my surroundings made me realize that even though everyone seems to just be sitting in their own little bubble on the bus waiting to get to their stop, they are all contributing to saving the environment. And with gas prices now, they are actually saving money.

So, everyone I’ve observed on this bus actually have more in common than I thought.

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post was insightful and gave you some food for thought about perspective on the little & overlooked things in life.

*Your surroundings are important; don’t overlook them; they can teach you a lot!*

A Time For Everything!

Have you ever asked yourself the question: “What am I still doing here?”.

. . .

Well, I have. And, I know it’s never a good question to ask yourself because it very rarely has a good answer. (the answer to that question usually discourages you.)

You see… Usually, when you ask yourself that question it signifies that you are tired of where you are currently in life, and you are aching for change; for something more.
That question makes you fell stuck, but you don’t know what to do.
All you know is you want to change something (you don’t want to be “here” asking yourself that question), but you don’t know what’s coming next.

Well, let me just tell you that you are “here” for a purpose, and your next step is coming, just be patient because there is a time for everything, and everything happens at a certain time for a specific reason.

Your life is moving, but when you don’t feel it, remember that with time you will move forward to something great. And, when you do, you won’t realize what hit you.
It feels slow now, but once it’s over you won’t remember all this waiting.

Life is all about timing and patience!

The more patience you have, the better things will become in time.
So, focus on where you are right now because your next step is coming (sooner than you think).

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post encouraged you, and gave you hope for your future!

P.S. This post was inspired by: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
(look it up; on google or in the bible),
it’s a great encouraging verse about timing and patience!
