The rear-view mirror…

Your breakthrough is coming!

. . .

“Dreams in the rear-view mirror are closer than they appear.”

Although, you should keep looking forward when chasing your dreams; sometimes you need to glance backwards at the progress you’re making along the way because that progress is actually your dreams starting to come true.
Think about it this way:

Your dreams are catching up to you.
They’re coming –
Closer and closer –
Each day, they inch forward.

You think: “Looking back is bad.”.
All you see back there are your failures.
You think the rear-view mirror is showing you all your mistakes & failures.

But, it’s actually the opposite.
It’s showing you all the lessons learned from the amazing, and crazy journey you took while working towards your dreams.
Those past failures and mistakes are actually your dreams starting to take shape.

Looking in that rear-view mirror should not discourage you.
Instead it should remind you that all those mistakes and failures are just speed bumps along this amazing journey towards achieving your dreams!

I hope this post inspired you to always continue to chase your dreams!

Birthday Goals?

So, today’s a weird / crazy / awesome day…

. . .

Today is my birthday, and I don’t know how to feel because I try to do this thing every year; I try to spend my birthday in a new country every year, so I can remember that birthday, and that country.

But, for the past 2 years, I’ve spent my birthday in my home country.
And, it does make me a little sad because it was truly a goal of mine.
But, it’s also totally fine.

I think I’m kind of fine with it because another goal of mine is to eventually move to a new country for an ‘extended’ period of time (longer than my usual trips).
So, I think that’s what I realized in the past 2 years of having my birthday at home.
Soon I will accomplish that goal (of moving to a new country), and I’ll have multiple birthdays in other countries – I just have to be patient, and happy with where I am now.

Plans change a lot, and that’s okay because sometimes plans change, and something better ends up happening that could never have been planned.

Anyways, I know this was a short post, but I wrote it mostly as a reminder to myself:
To not always get so caught up in my plans for the future, or needing to achieve all my goals right away because I know I will get there eventually, and achieve all my goals and then some.

So, I hope if you read this until the end, you will also realize that you don’t need to get frustrated or discouraged if your plans change on your journey to achieving your dreams because it’s for the better,; something better is ahead.

Have a great day, and continue to strive toward your goals no matter what life throws at you! You got this!

I have a question…

I said that phrase SO MANY (more like TOO MANY) times when I was living in Chile.

Or, at least, that’s what I told myself because I thought I was getting annoying, but, turns out people didn’t mind answering my questions; and I learned so much by asking all those questions during those 3 months.

Ask all the questions you could possibly ask in a day. It’s the only way you’ll learn and remember anything!

Asking questions will get you so much farther than thinking you know everything ever will!

This post: Una Publicación en Español

Was not just written overnight. It took 3 months of hard work and dedication.

You see, I lived in Chile for 3 months and asked way more than 10 questions per day about the language and culture. And, I did my best to speak Spanish as much as I could, whenever I could. And, one day, a few weeks before I was set to depart, my chilean family told me that my Spanish had improved since they first met me, months ago. And, they told me that I speak well (when I finally have enough courage to say something), which made me happy and proud of myself because it was the moment I realized it was all worth it, and that I definitely wanted to continue learning Spanish. So, I decided to write a short post to show myself how far I came in those 3 months full of questions and doubts (those questions and doubts led to fluency).

At first, I was super afraid of being judge for my accent and my knowledge of the language because whenever I didn’t know something I didn’t feel worthy to speak the language. And, so, for the first few weeks I didn’t say much, I just observed. And, soon after, I decided to start asking people about the things I didn’t know. And, whether or not I got a serious answer, I would inevitably learn something, everyday. So, I did this everyday, for 3 months. And, by the end, I was having conversations in Spanish.

I spoke Spanish.

I heard Spanish.

I saw spanish.

I listened to music in Spanish.

I watched movies in Spanish.

I participated in Spanish conversations.

I lived in a Spanish country; I lived Spanish (Chilean), for 3 months.

Instead of telling myself that I wasn’t worthy of speaking the language or that I would just be made fun of, so I shouldn’t try to learn the language; I told myself to ask at least 1 question per day (that quickly turned into 10). And, before I knew it I was becoming fluent in Spanish.

So, my point in sharing that story was to tell you that, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel dumb, and you feel like you’re not worthy of knowing the answer, or you’re scared of not being good enough; just start Asking all the questions and Learn something new everyday!

Thanks for reading! And remember:

You must strive to better yourself everyday because you’ll soon realize that, deep down, you knew the answers all along.

Every Mile Matters…

It’s history
You can’t rewrite it
You’re not meant to be trapped inside it
Every tear brought you here
Every sorrow gathered
Yeah, it’s history
And every mile mattered

. . .

Life is full of ups and downs…

it’s full of good decisions and bad decisions…

. . .

Right now you’re either at a point in your life that you’re super proud of, or you’re telling yourself everyday that you’re a disappointment.

Things are either going your way or not quite what you want, but, either way you are always making decisions that will impact your tomorrow self. Those decisions could change your life in an instant (good or bad).

So, just remember that, next time you are faced with an important decision, just know that whatever you decide you will inevitably learn something from it.

. . .

“Every Mile Matters!”

You see, travelers don’t get disappointed when they don’t see/do exaxtly what they wanted in a new country because they know that what they did see mattered and will probably lead to something else that will be unexpectedly amazing.

“Every decisions has an impact!”

Just like in life, you can’t get disappointed when you think you made a terrible mistake. You can’t wish you chose the other option; all you can do is live in the moment and learn from every decision you make each day.

Thanks for reading! I hope this post inspired you in some way! 🙂

P.S. This post was inspired by the song: Every Mile Mattered (click the link to check it out!)

Coco!

So, I just had a “weird” experience.

. . .

I just went to the movie theatre here in Chile and watched a Spanish movie (w/o subtitles).

. . .

It might not seem like such a weird thing, but that’s the best word I could think of to describe it.

It made me feel weird because I’ve been living here for 3 months and hearing Spanish everyday, so it’s become normal to me.

But, going to the movie theatre was a similar experience for me that I forgot I was even in Chile.

I just watched the movie in spanish and my brain hardly had to think about it (the words just made sense in my brain).

I mean, sure, there were pictures, which definitely did help, but, even in moments when the people were just standing still talking, I understood what they were saying like it was normal.

It was only after the movie that I realized that I had just watch an entire Spanish movie with no subtitles or translator and I actually understood it.

I actually laughed at the jokes when other people laughed (which is how I knew I was laughing at the right time and how I knew that I actually understood what was happening in the movie).

. . .

So, you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you all this.

Well, one: Because I felt proud of myself and wanted to share it with someone.

And, two: Because I realized that I can maybe inspire someone out there to learn a new language.

. . .

Now that I know that after 3 months of listening and living in Spanish I can watch a Spanish movie and understand it, it gives me hope that I can one day become fluent. And so, that’s what I’m trying to do.

After the movie, I really started trying to listen to people around me and actually respond with full sentences, not just one word. And, it’s actually been so worth it because it makes me feel happy to know that I understand what people are saying and that I can respond and be understood.

. . .

And, that’s why I think everyone should learn another language.

It takes a lot of work and dedication, but in the end you will feel so proud of your accomplishment that you will want to continue to learn the language, and maybe even have the courage to try another new thing.

Put in the work!

d433fef056372e0edadafaf4af5626e1--fitnessmotivation-so-true

You can’t just put in work when you feel like it.
Success won’t come overnight.
Your dreams won’t accomplish themselves.

Whatever it is that you want to accomplish; YOU have to put in the work EVERYDAY!
Results come with consistency and patience!

. . .

I’ve been living in Chile for 2 months and I can truly say that putting in the work is 100% worth it.
There are days (especially during my first month of living here) when I don’t feel like trying to speak Spanish, and as a result, during the day I feel lost and alone. I’m not trying to understand what people are saying and I don’t feel like trying to speak (my broken) Spanish, and as a result, I isolate myself.
But, during the days when I put in the work to listen and speak Spanish, I start to feel like I actually kind of fit in because I’m consciously listening and understanding to what people are saying and I actively try to speak Spanish the best I can and I start to feel understood and less alone.

. . .

Anyways, this post is just your Sunday reminder that whatever you want to accomplish this week, you can’t just sit there and say: “I’ll get there 1 day, I have all week anyways.”.
You have to get up now and actively work for what you want!

Putting in the work will always lead to great things!

One day – OR – Day one

You decide…

. . .

Are you gonna keep saying: “one day I’ll accomplish that thing I’ve always wanted“?

– OR –

Are you going to: “start today and make today, day one of accomplishing your dreams and goals”?

. . .

That’s all for this post. I just wanted to give you some quick food for thought to get you motivated to start accomplishing your goals today and stop saying: “one day”. And, start saying: “today is, day one of my journey to accomplishing my goals”.

Strange, yet Fascinating!

Wow! That went by quick! 2 weeks to living in Chile-in the books! I can’t believe it’s already, and only, been two weeks. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long, but yet, it also feels like I’ve done so much.

. . .

This year (2018) has already been a crazy year, all about doing strange & fascinating things (and it’s still only January)

. . .

From:
Listening to people speak so fast in Spanish.
To:
Living in another country (alone).
Not a thing about this year has been normal (compared to all the past year’s of my life).

. . .

Seriously, though, listening to people speak another language has become so fascinating to me because they do it with such ease (obviously I know it’s their native language), yet for me to follow along, takes a lot (and I mean an extra amount) of effort.

And, every time I listen to people speak Spanish, it’s so fascinating to think that that’s how I sound to them when I speak English.

. . .

And, as if listening wasn’t hard enough, when I think I know what they’re talking about, I’m usually wrong because I missed an important word or part of the conversation.

. . .

Living here in Chile is like being a kid all over again and needing to start over at 0 & learn how to speak all over again & train my ears to listen to a foreign language as if it’s normal.

But, I’ve asked myself this question multiple times since living here:

“Exactly, how, do you learn & become fluent in a completely new language as an adult?”

And, if you came here for answers, I’m sorry but I’m still figuring out the answer myself, but I can say:

Part of it is because our brain isn’t as fresh as it was when we were babies, so it’s harder for you to soak up and retain things & catch on to the tones in peoples voices.

So, you end up having a slight accent when you speak because that’s what you grew up hearing and that’s what your brain thinks words should sound like. And because you have an accent, you feel subconscious about speaking, in fear of being made fun of. And because of that fear, you just don’t speak, and you never practice, and you never learn.

So, what I’m trying to say is, that if you are trying to learn a new language:

Don’t be afraid to speak it because that’s truly the only way you will even come close to fluency in that language.

But, let me warn you, it will take a long time.

But, it will definitely be worth it!

Thanks for reading!
Now get out there and go learn a new language & don’t give up on it!

The Mirror / A Message to All Humans

-“Heyo! How are you today?”
-“Good… what do you want today?”
-“Nothing. This is just your daily reminder to think about your future – Are you happy with your life?”
-“Yes! …I mean, I was enjoying my day, until now.”
-“Good, I’m glad I got your attention. I need you to go look in the mirror right now!”
-“…Why?”
-“Just do it!”
-“…ok, ok, I’m looking at myself, now what?”
-“What do you see?”
-“…myself?”
-“Are you sure that the person you see, is YOU? Is that person someone you’re proud to be?”
-“…ya… I guess?”
-“What do you mean ‘I guess’?”
-“I never really thought about it before…”
-“Good! So, what do you see now?”
-“…”

-A conversation between us and our thoughts.-

. . .

What do YOU see every time you look in the mirror?
Do you see someone with big hopes and dreams?
Do you see someone with drive and purpose?
Do you see someone with nothing left?
Do you see a successful person?
Do you judge and make fun of yourself every time you look in the mirror?

Well, whatever it is you see in the mirror, that is what you reflect, back into this world, so make sure that when you look in the mirror, you see someone wonderfully created for a greater purpose than you could ever dream of and understand.

. . .

In society today, we always focus on the little details and “imperfections” of ourselves, but those “imperfections” are what make us unique and perfect. However, instead of thinking this way, whenever we look in the mirror, we usually focus on the following things:
“my face is fat, I have so much acne, my nose/stomach is too small/big, my eyebrows are never ‘on fleek’, I wish my eyes were a different colour, my shoulders look weird, my neck is too skinny/fat, my chin is weird, my teeth are too crooked/yellow, my hair has a mind of its’ own, my feet/hands are too big/small, my chest is too big/small, my thighs are too big/small, etc.”

Those sentences are all things humans tell themselves everyday. But, why? Why do we continuously torture ourselves? Who created this ideal of what humans must look, act and dress like?

. . .

We need to stop torturing ourselves with the idea that “the ideal  human” exists’ because she/he doesn’t (straight-up, does not exist, sorry to burst your bubble but you will never be her/him). You will always be your perfect and unique self (that’s really what the ideal human is anyways, Being Yourself).

This phenomenon of “the ideal human” happens all over the world because every culture has a different way of seeing men and women, but, no matter what perspective you choose to find “the ideal human”, you will never find her/him. We are all different and we will never be the same.

~Let’s stop torturing ourselves with the idea of “the ideal human”, and start loving our differences/uniqueness!~

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you’re dedicated to finishing this post and you’re still reading, I thought since you’re still here, I should tell you about what inspired this post (maybe the backstory will also inspire you even more).

So, this morning, I looked in the mirror and for some strange reason, I didn’t see myself.
I mean, I didn’t see that same person that’s been looking back at me all these years.
For some reason, the person looking back at me seemed different. And, at first it kinda felt weird. And, I’m still not even sure why I saw another person, but it made me realize something.
Every time I look in a mirror, I don’t look at myself. Instead, I look at all my “imperfections” because I’m curious and worried that they’re all other people see.
Instead of looking at the happy, positive person looking back at me, I look past those bright hopeful eyes and direct my attention to all my “imperfections”. I look at all the reasons I failed and all the reasons I’m not happy.

But, today, I looked in the mirror and ignored all those negative voices and looked directly into my eyes and for a split second, I saw a glimpse of hope and happiness in my life. I saw a completely different version of myself; one that I always want to see and be (those eyes seemed so hopeful and excited about the future. For once, I didn’t get curious about how I look, instead I got excited about my bright, successful future.)

And, it was in that moment that I realized that, that’s how I want to see myself from now on. I want to see a happy person that knows that her hopes and dreams aren’t stupid, and they will come true. I want the person starring back at me in that mirror to smile and be proud of what I’ve accomplished because I am doing the best I can and that’s all I’ll ever ask of myself. I want that person in the mirror to become my best friend and never my enemy.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So, the reason I’m sharing this story with you is because I want you to know that if you’re doing your best, then you’re succeeding at life.

“Your best should make YOU happy and that’s all that should ever matter!”

So, after reading this long post:
1- I really appreciate it – THANK YOU!
😊
2-
I want you to realize that you need to stop looking at your “imperfections”. Instead, when you look in the mirror, look into your eyes and imagine all your possible hopes and dreams coming true. The sooner you realize that your hopes and dreams will come true, the sooner you will find true happiness and start making those hopes and dreams come true.

~You are worth more than any of your imperfections, faults, and failures – YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING!~

Always believe and remember that truth, and your dreams will become reality. Just focus on them and never loose hope in your bright future.
And, if you can’t stand to look in the mirror, or you feel like your life is falling apart, or you feel like the worlds’ biggest failure; Remember that you deserve SO much because YOU ARE POWERFUL, STRONG, AND CAPABLE enough to get through anything and make your amazing dreams come true (you’ve made it this far😉).
All you need to do is dig deep inside yourself and find that amazing version of yourself and set if free. And, don’t let anyone tell you differently because if they hate on you, it just means they’re jealous and scared of your confidence.

~Make sure your living your life and no one else’s! ~
~I know it’s a cliché, but if you aim for the stars and love yourself – You will make all your dreams come true! ~

Thank you for reading this long post, I hope it inspires and encourages you!

Drowning with guilt & happiness…

Don’t let guilt ruin your happiness! If you’ve ever felt guilty for being too happy, read the following post.

. . .

So, I see that you kept reading.
That, either means you’re just curious about this post or you really do feel guilty about being too happy.
Either way, I hope this post helps.

. . .

The feeling of guilt from being too happy probably comes from one (or all) of the following reasons:

1- You’ve been depressed or had anxiety for a period in your life, and it’s hard for you to feel true happiness anymore.

2- You don’t think you deserve happiness. You don’t think you’re worthy of happiness.

3- You think that, with everything going on in the world, no one should be happy because you don’t want to be naive.

Well let me just say: All of those reasons are lies your conscience tells you to keep you from being happy because good things happen when were happy and sometimes we’re scared of good things happening to us.

. . .

So, if you ever feel 1 (or all 3) of these reasons, let me just say:

1- If you can overcome depression & anxiety, you definitely deserve to be happy!

2- Everyone deserves happiness, no matter who you are, you’re definitely not on this earth to be sad all the time!

3- If you start to be happier, you will start spreading happiness & positivity in the world, which might help everything going on in the world! You never know the impact you can have!

4- Happiness & positivity will help you achieve your goals & dreams (like making the world better)!

5- Being happy is much more fun than being sad!

. . .

Oh, and, one more thing.
If you are reading this and you are depressed or anxious, just know that you (or anyone) should not force you to be happy.
Take your time to get through this season.
Taking small steps everyday will lead you to true happiness again.
Small steps in the right direction with feelings, is better than one quick steps in the right direction without feelings.

Happiness + Positivity = Goals & Dreams Achieved

Never feel guilty for being happy, we all need more happiness & positivity in the world! If you’re happy about something smile, don’t hide your happiness!

Hiding your happiness is like letting yourself drown, but knowing how to swim! Come back to the surface & find true happiness!

Thanks for reading! Please remember to smile at least once a day! 🙂

Fake Facades & Fake Smiles…

“Alright, let’s do this!”
or
“Well… another day to survive.”
or
“Let’s conquer this day!”

-Says you (to yourself), every morning.

. . .

You wake up everyday, ready to talk and smile at people even though you’re tired or you’re sad or you’re done with life and need a break; but instead of telling people how you really feel, you mentally prepare yourself for the day by getting emotionally ready to answer: “good!” Or “I’m fine, how are you?”. It has become second nature to just answer positively without thinking about how you really feel or without telling anyone how your day is really going.

20170809_124408

But why do we do this?

I mean we are all human and we know we are all gonna go through tough times and we should just accept and understand that if someone’s having a bad day we should let them be.
On the other hand, it is a good idea to try and be positive everyday because it’s a great way to continue to strive to achieve your goals & dreams

20170809_124451

. . .

So, if you feel like you need to put on a fake facade and fake smile your way through the day to stay positive to achieve your dreams; DO IT! You are in control of your emotions. Being positive is also a great way to help others around you become happier if they’re having a bad day too.

So, technically, you putting on a fake smile will surround yourself with positive people which will help you become happier and achieve your goals & dreams.

However, if you don’t have the energy to put on a fake facade and smile at everyone, you shouldn’t feel like you have to; Just be yourself  because after all, we are all just humans trying to “make it” in this world.

. . .

Try and get in tune with your emotions, and then you will be able to control them.
Once you learn to control your emotions you won’t need to put on a fake smile for anyone because you will know when you can handle it and when you just need to be yourself

Thanks for reading! I hope this post inspired you!
