Solo Travel Tip #3

This tip is about:

. . .

When you finally decide to step out of your comfort zone, and travel abroad alone, you’re going to be so happy, and proud, but there’s one thing you should know.

When you travel abroad alone, you are going to want to make international friends, and meet people that speak the language and know the culture.
So, while you’re alone in a foreign country, that’s what you do.
That’s what’s on your mind because you don’t want to be alone all the time, so you start making friends to explore with, learn the language, and make amazing international connections.
And, in the moment, it’s all amazing and great fun, but soon it’s going to be time to say bye to that amazing country and those awesome new friends. And, that’s when the difficult part begins.

. . .

The first hardest part is actually saying bye to your amazing new friends.
The second hardest part is leaving a new country and culture that you started adapting to and loving so much.
The third, and final hardest part is going home, and getting used to seeing everything differently.

. . .

While traveling abroad alone, you learn more about yourself, you make new friendships and you learn to live differently in another country.
And, although all these things are awesome, the worst part is coming back to your home country because your perspective has changed, and sometimes it can feel weird to go back to your old ways. Especially when you had such a good experience abroad; you don’t want to lose this amazing, new version of yourself.

. . .

So, if you ever feel lost after a trip abroad:
Remember that stepping out of your comfort zone and changing your perspective is what it takes to move forward, and change your life.
And, now you have friends in another country that you can visit whenever you feel homesick for that country.

Thanks for reading!

I hope this post encourages you to step out of your comfort zone, and change your perspective on the world (don’t be afraid of doing something different!).

Fear is calling

What if your greatest fear is actually what you’re meant to do in life?

. . .

Think about that!
Think about the thing you refuse to conquer because it scares you too much.
Now, think about what would happen if you conquered that fear.

What if conquering that fear is the breakthrough you need to accomplish your dreams?
What if once you conquer this fear you will start to see your life change?
. . .
I know from experience that conquering your greatest fear can genuinely change your life.
I used to be so scared to speak in front of big groups of people (public speaking – my biggest fear ever since I can remember).
But, ever since I started solo traveling abroad, I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone so much everyday. I’ve been doing things (like speaking to strangers) that I know past me would never even dare trying because she was too scared.
And, now that I’ve started stepping out of my comfort zone, I’ve realized that it feels so amazing when you conquer a fear.
I feel like I can do anything!
When I think about past me and how fearful I was, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. And, all it took was for me to take one big, scary step into the unknown, and then, everything fell into place from there.
Once I decided to take the leap, and travel abroad alone, I realized that if I could gain enough courage to solo travel to foreign countries surrounded by strangers that spoke a different language, I could do anything.
. . .
In other words, the day I decided to solo travel abroad is also the day that I started conquering my fears (like speaking to strangers in a foreign language), and that’s when everything changed (my mindset, confidence, etc.)
My confidence has risen so much so that I don’t even recognize that fearful girl that I used to be, and it feels amazing to have no fears.
I say: “No fears” because now, when something scares me, I have enough confidence to make me want to conquer that fear because I know it will be so worth it. It will give me even more confidence and make me feel so accomplished.
. . .

So, if there’s something that really scares you, I recommend just going for it. You never know what will happen.
Conquering that fear could lead you to your life purpose!

What if your greatest fear could actually become your life purpose?

Rain…

The sound of rain –
I hear it outside my window
It’s a calming, and sometimes annoying sound.
I stare out at the rainy world!

The feel of rain –
I feel it –
Soaking through my clothes.
It makes me cold and soggy,
But, I can’t be mad at it.

Rainy days are not fun.
But, they are a great reminder –
To never overlook the sunny days.

Never just take advantage of the sun, because the rain will come.

But, after the rain,

The sun will come out again,
And, maybe it’ll even form a beautiful rainbow.

So, I wait for the end of the rain.
I sit here,
Shivering and drenched,
But, still not complaining.

. . .

Just give the sun, and rain their turn in the spotlight. Just like the sun, and the moon.

During the day, the sun outshines the moon, but at night, when the sun is sleeping, the moon has it’s time to shine.

We must appreciate the rain (moon) while waiting for the sun to come out again.

And, one great way to appreciate the rain is to remember this:

The rain is our great reminder –
To be grateful for everything,
And to find the good in everyday,
And to stop complaining about rain.

So, instead,

Let’s stand out in the rain!
Let’s get cold, and soggy!

Let’s wait for it to dry!
Let’s feel the rain!

I hope this post inspired you to appreciate the small (sometimes annoying) things in life because they can make all the difference!

A little goes a long way!

$1 CDN = $500 CLP

. . .

So, 2 months ago I was living in Chile and the last time I went to the bank to get money for some souvenirs, I thought about how much money/souvenirs I wanted.
And, since the bank machines were in Chilean pesos I had to do the math, converting Chilean pesos to Canadian dollars.
And, while looking at the bank machine screen, thinking about how much Canadian $ I wanted to withdraw from my account, I realize that even if I only took $50 that would equal $25,000 pesos, which I know could buy quite a bit of souvenirs.

And, that’s when it hit me.

$1 a day can actually go a long way!
Those campaigns aren’t lying?
Wait, what!?

. . .

And, because of this moment, I thought of those sponsor child companies and how I always thought their $1/day marketing strategies seemed crazy and unreasonable because I always thought: “What could $1 really do? I mean seriously, you can barely buy a chocolate bar with a dollar; What is a child in another country going to do with it?”.

Well, let me just say that after taking this money for some souvenirs, I bought a lot of souvenirs (and I still had money left). And, I, now, know that in another country a dollar can actually buy a lot.

For example: 1 dollar in Chile is worth about 500 pesos And, with 500 pesos in Chile, you can buy a drink and a chocolate bar (and still have some change left).

So, those campaigns that tell you that sponsoring a child for $1/day can make a difference, are actually telling the truth, which took me a second to believe, but they’re right. …What!?

Think about it: If you give someone $1 for an entire months (and they save it); by the end of the month, they’ll have $30, which they can use for extra things (like clothes, school, things they probably couldn’t afford to buy with money from their income because of, well, you know…bills.

. . .

That’s all.
I don’t, in any way, want to guilt you into donating. I’m only sharing this because when I finally realized the worth of $1, I was shook. And, I just wanted to share my realization that those dollar a day sponsor campaigns actually really do make a difference in someone else’s life in another country.
One dollar, for someone in another country would enable them to buy the small daily necessities, and save the money they make (which is probably about $1 a day) for bills, like a house and an education. In some countries, education is not even free (that education could enable them to get a better job)!

Thanks for reading!
I’ll leave you with this question that I asked myself when I realized this:
Who knew $1 could actually make such a difference?

And, if you’re still not convinced (like I was), go to another country (with a certain amount of money for the month) and set yourself a budget. And, try to also notice those around you, and observe the difference between their daily lifestyle and yours.

A lot of people live off of $1 a day, so your donations would help them a lot.
It would literally double their income!

Life is all about the hustle!

We all want to leave some sort of legacy behind for people to remember us by.
We work so hard to make sure people remember us for something big.
We spend most of our lives trying to impress the “big boss” to get that big promotion, so we can start making a difference.

. . .

And, all that is great and all; we should have dreams and goals. Hustling for what you want is great. But, what if, after all that hard work you never get that promotion? Then, what?

…If it were me, I’d probably be a little sad and depressed, and I wouldn’t have any energy left to create another legacy.

So, instead of waiting for that perfect moment, why not just start creating your legacy today?

. . .

Legacies don’t need to be spectacular shows, like those of history (like Martin Luther king Jr and other historical figures).

You can start making a difference right now, just by being YOU!
That’s the best legacy you can ever create!

I mean, think about it. That’s the one thing that all those people have in common; they are all remembered because they believed in something, and made it change. And, they didn’t stop until people believed in what they were doing and joined in.

They believed in themselves until others started to as well!

That’s the best way to create a legacy; believe in yourself so much that others have no choice but to start believing in you too.
If you do that, you will be remembered for being you and encouraging others to be themselves.

. . .

Don’t just work your whole life away for that one promotion to start your life legacy; start creating it now!

The definition of legacy says: “A gift of some sort, handed down from one generation to the next.”.

So, what gift do you want to leave for the world? (Not just your family, but the entire world?!?)

Remember, it doesn’t have to be a tangible thing; it can be love, happiness, inclusion, peace, etc.
But, whatever it is, you need to live by it everyday! And, people will eventually start to catch on!

That’s all you need to do to create a legacy, perseverance and self-confidence!

Thanks for reading!
Now, go create your legacy!

If you love those things as much as I do, and you also love to travel and explore new places, check out this program to find your next amazing adventure:

GreenHeartTravel

I also copied my review of the program I did below:

Program: Teach English in a home-stay in Chile (for 3 months, in my case. But, you can choose from 1, 2 or 3 months.)
My experience with this program was amazing! I loved every second of my life in Chile! I loved getting to know my host family, and watch their English improve more and more each day! I loved learning about their culture, and teaching them about mine! I loved getting to see another culture in action (while being completely submersed in it). The bond I formed with my host family during this program is the one thing I will never forget about this experience!
My experience with this program changed my view on the world because it made me more aware of the world around me and how many things we take for granted each day (that other people barely even have access to).
This experience also helped me strengthen my Spanish skills and my teaching skills; which are two things I now know I definitely want to use in the future.
I would definitely recommend this program to anyone just looking to travel and make new friends abroad, while making a difference in such a simple, yet very important, way.
Teaching English abroad is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I hope that you find a great country to visit (and, maybe even a program) that’s perfect for you!
Have an amazing next adventure!

Oh, and, I hope that this video:ย My Trip to Chile! (Part 5) encourages you to travel to Chile (or even South America) because I 100% recommend it!

Crave…

So, today’s post is a one-word prompt about the word “crave”.

. . .

So, it’s very late at night (this might be a short post) and I almost forgot to write today. And, the first things that came to my mind when I remembered that I had to write something for day 3 was: “I crave mac & cheese”.

. . .

I’m not exactly sure why this came to mind because mac & cheese isn’t really my favorite meal, but, I have been living in Chile for a few weeks now, and I think its’ simplicity, homey & comforting feel made me crave it.

This also made me realize that, when we travel, we usually crave the simple, little things from home.
And, when we are home, we crave/miss the simple, little adventures from our past/future travels.

Simple things really do make a difference!
Don’t overlook the little things!
Small things make more of an impact than you would think!

Thanks for reading this short & very late, but, hopefully, somewhat, insightful post!

Nice V.S. Kind

This Christmas season think about the following question:

What is the difference between; nice and kind?

. . .

For me, being nice is just something we should be everyday.

But, being kind is something we should strive to do for someone that will make a difference in their life and our own.

~Being nice is a state of being that everyone should adopt as humans,
but, Being kind is an action that makes a difference.~

During the holiday season, everyone just thinks and stressesโ€™ about buying the โ€œperfectโ€ gifts for friends and family. But, what if, this holiday season instead of stressing over the โ€œperfectโ€ gift for a friend you see everyday anyways, you did a random act of kindness for a complete stranger.

(It doesnโ€™t have to be someone on the streets or anything, just do something kind for the person behind you in line at the grocery store or at a coffee shop or your neighbour.) Random acts of kindness should be what this season is all about.

~Give selflessly without expecting anything in return.~
&
~Spread love and kindness this holiday season!~

P.S. If you live in the U.S. & you would like to share your opinion about the difference between nice & kind while having a chance to win something; Click the following link for more details: MoreKIND Contest!

And, if you don’t live in the U.S. (like me), feel free to write your thoughts in the comments below or post on your own blog; what the difference between nice & kind is to you! (If you do please tag me, I would love to read it ๐Ÿ˜‰)
