An Overwhelmed Heart

“When my heart is overwhelmed,
lead me to the rock.”

it’s been
well
a month..
but
it’s felt
like
a year!

i’ve been searching
i’ve been learning
i’ve been leaning
i’ve been reaching

and
it has
exhausted me
but with you
i know
it was
all
so worth
it
because

although
i feel defeated
frustrated
confused
alone
lost
i look up
because
i know
that

you’ve waited
so long
for me
to come
to you
for me
to learn
to lean
on you

so
now
i come
with no expectations
into your home
i accept
your invitation
to perfect
love
to
break these
cycles

your invitation
and never-failing
love
steadies my feet
and
overwhelms my heart

Just Who He Is!

Loving
Compassionate
Gracious
Trusting
Caring
Perfect
Hope
Faithful
Sinless

. . .

That’s just who
He is
That’s why
We call Him
Abba Father

He came
Before us
And
He won’t
Leave us

Nothing we do
Could stop Him
From loving us

That is just
Who He is

. . .

We are
Broken
Hurt
Sinful
Lost
Faithless
Alone
Hopeless

But

He helps us
Become
Like Him

Entirely
Whole

Living in the Unknown

Alone
In a country
So far from
My own

With no ticket
To go home
For two years
This is it

Day by day
Growing
And ignoring
What the doubters say

Lost but not alone
Searching with God
Learning to live
In the unknown

I thank God everyday that He has a plan for my life
that is bigger & better than I could ever dream!

Spiral…

“Sometimes on this journey,
I get lost in my own mistakes.
But, my story isn’t over,
my story’s just begun.”

Can you hear me?
I’m spiraling.
Help!

Where am I?
I’m stuck in my thoughts.
Help!

When will this end?
I’m tired of always fighting.
Help!

Is anyone out there?
I’m begging to be free.
Help!

I feel like I’m:

Loosing myself
Brewing in self hatred
Swallowing with guilt
Thinking too much
Breaking everything I touch
Talking down to myself
Coping with the pain wrongly
Trying to change myself
Feeling like giving up
Dwelling on my past
Building my walls up higher
Learning to trust no one

God, I’m drowing
Deeper and deeper
Will you release me from this spiral?

My thoughts & emotions
Have taken over
Can you get them back?

God, I need you
And your amazing love
Will you help me?

I’ve lost the will to fight
I feel like giving up
Will you free me from this pain?

God, I need you
To remind me of your presence
Can you show me your love?

With God, I feel like I’m:

Winning back myself
Brewing in His love
Swallowing with ease
Thinking to gain wisdom
Breaking down walls
Talking about the truth
Swearing to never go back
Striving to be better
Feeling His love
Dwelling in His presence
Building friendships
Learning to trust again

Thanks for reading!
I hope this reminded you that you can always call out to God in difficult times,
& He will always listen and help you because:

YOU NEVER HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ALONE!

Hide n’ Seek with Myself

Who am I?
What’s my talent?
Where do I belong?
When is it gonna be my time?
How will I find it?

All these questions
Remain unanswered
Leaving me lost
And confused
Searching for more

I can’t seem to see
Nothing gets better
I feel stuck
In this endless cycle
Of this identity crisis

All my life
I’ve searched
And tried to get out
But life always catches me
And I fall backwards

But I don’t give up
I continue
I press on
Moving forward
Must be better

. . .

Because I still believe
That my time
Is coming
So I hold on
To the Hope

I no longer fear
I am held
I have hope
I must be patient
I will make it

I will find me
I can’t hide forever
I must continue to seek
I will end
This game

I hope this post inspired you to never stop searching because one day you will find yourself & everything will fall into perfect place.

Tearing Down Walls

I’ve built up so many walls.
It might take some time to tear them all down.
But, I’m working on it.
Slowly…

It took me my whole life to build these walls.
I’ve worked every day of my life.
I’m proud of this work I’ve done.
But, I think I’m ready to tear them down.

I’m ready to feel free.
I’m tired of hiding behind these walls.
I feel like I’m suffocating.
I need to breathe again.

These walls are not helping me.
These walls are hurting me.
These walls are depressing.

I thought I needed them.
To feel safe.
To feel secure.
To feel happy.
To feel good.

But, I think I’m wrong.
I think these walls are stopping me.
I think these walls are holding me back.
I think I need to break down these walls.

But, how?

How do I tear down my whole life?
How do I forget about it all?
How can I leave it all behind me?

I haven’t exactly found an answer to that question, but here’s a song that has helped me start to understand why these walls are hurting me.

Never Lost – Song

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post encourages you & reminds you that it’s never too late to break down the walls.

Never Lost…

Tired
Alone
Afraid
Fearful
Isolated
Seeking
Clueless
Faithless
Hopeless
Doubtful
Ashamed
Confused
Powerless
Searching
Wandering
Questioning
Disappointed
Overwhelmed

But, never truly lost…

I hope this reminded you to not get discouraged during the ups and downs of life because they are teaching you valuable lessons for your amazing future!

Alive Again!

So, this post is inspired by a personal experience I’ve had recently,
that taught me A LOT of lessons!

Woke up
Disappointed
Crying my eyes out
Feeling lost

Cleaned up
Self confronted
Full of doubts
Feeling done

Looked up
Refocused
Found my roots
Feeling motivated

Stood up
Restarted
Took a new route
Feeling different

Jumped up
Wisdom gained
In pursuit – of
Feeling alive again!

I hope that this poem helps you realize that there is always something to learn from new (good or bad) experiences!

P.S. The following song also inspired this poem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXHrm_TDEIw

Flashlight…

Turn it on
Point it in front of you
Follow the circle

The dark…

It can scare you
And comfort you

Scared to see
What’s in front of you?

The dark
Can feel safe

Flip that switch
To feel safer

The circle
Is your safe spot

Walk in that circle
And feel protected

. . . because . . .

Life will throw you into the dark
And you will feel lost

That’s when you find your flashlight
To show you the way

Day 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina

I made it to Buenos Aires, Argentina!

. . .

My first 24 hours here were a whirlwind of emotions. I couldn’t believe that I was actually here (it seems too surreal). I was so happy that I finally made it!
But, after the initial feeling of amazement and happiness, the culture shock hit me.
I didn’t know what to feel or what to do.
I couldn’t remember why I wanted to come here in the first place.
I was afraid to speak Spanish to ask for directions, and as a result, I would get lost a lot
I would shut down in the middle of the street, and basically cry because I didn’t know what I was doing or where I was going. (I felt lost and alone.)

In summary, my first 24 hours were filled with all the ups and downs of culture shock.

. . .

Now that I’ve been here for more than 48 hours, I am much more confident in my Spanish (I actually want to speak it), I know my way around the city much better now, and I’ve learned that it’s completely normal to feel culture shock.

So, my advice for anyone traveling to a completely new country (especially for the first time) is to know that culture shock is completely normal (even if it’s your millionth time traveling abroad)
Everyone will feel it differently, and every country will be a different type of shock because there’s always at least one thing that changes.

 . . .

All that to say that, I am absolutely loving Argentina, my new found perspective on things, and I can’t wait to see what adventures the next 3 months hold.

. . .

The impossible maze

Looking for a way
A way in or a way out
Searching for something

A way – which way?

Where to go or turn
Lost in this confusing maze
No way out – or in

That’s the maze of life
Entering unknowingly

And no exiting

Until – The End.

A maze with no map
Nothing to help you get out
No way to be free

Gotta make the best
Of this long time in the maze
The maze called life

So just stop looking
For a way out – i
t’s useless
And not findable

Thanks for reading!

Stop looking for a way out &
Just start enjoying life in the impossible maze – it can be really fun!

Lost @ home

“Traveling – It gives you home in thousand strange places, then leaves you a stranger in your own land.”

. . .

You see, feeling homesick in another country, brings back the memories about things missed from home. But, feeling homesick at home, is confusing because you’re home, so you think you should feel fine. But, deep down there’s something missing; it feels like the other country became your “home away from home”.
So, no matter where you are, you feel homesick because everywhere you’ve been is home in some way.

“Everywhere feels like home in it’s own way.”
That’s a sign of a well-traveled adventurer —
when you feel at home in every country you’ve ever visited!

*Traveling abroad helps you find yourself in so many different countries!*

. . .

Personally, I love traveling so I can learn about new cultures, new languages, discover new places in the world, and discover new things about myself.
And, the more I’ve traveled, the more I’ve realized that there is one downside to always wanting to travel and explore the world — *You eventually start to find yourself in all those countries. And, then, when you come home, you feel lost in your own hometown.*

And, that is a difficult, yet inevitable things to adjust to about traveling abroad.
When you start to travel abroad, you start to find yourself in other countries & you start to loose yourself at home. But, that’s when you need to realize why traveling is so amazing.
One day, you are going to wake up and realize that all your adventures were worth it because you will feel like the whole world has become your home, and you will realize that wherever you are in the world you will feel at home.

When the world starts to feel like your home; that’s when you know that you need to continue to travel — To continue to get to know the world and make international connections, so that whenever you feel homesick from that country, you can go back there as if it were home!

Thanks for reading!
Now, get out there & go explore the world & make the world your home!

Put in the work!

d433fef056372e0edadafaf4af5626e1--fitnessmotivation-so-true

You can’t just put in work when you feel like it.
Success won’t come overnight.
Your dreams won’t accomplish themselves.

Whatever it is that you want to accomplish; YOU have to put in the work EVERYDAY!
Results come with consistency and patience!

. . .

I’ve been living in Chile for 2 months and I can truly say that putting in the work is 100% worth it.
There are days (especially during my first month of living here) when I don’t feel like trying to speak Spanish, and as a result, during the day I feel lost and alone. I’m not trying to understand what people are saying and I don’t feel like trying to speak (my broken) Spanish, and as a result, I isolate myself.
But, during the days when I put in the work to listen and speak Spanish, I start to feel like I actually kind of fit in because I’m consciously listening and understanding to what people are saying and I actively try to speak Spanish the best I can and I start to feel understood and less alone.

. . .

Anyways, this post is just your Sunday reminder that whatever you want to accomplish this week, you can’t just sit there and say: “I’ll get there 1 day, I have all week anyways.”.
You have to get up now and actively work for what you want!

Putting in the work will always lead to great things!

Perspective… / A Day in Valparaiso, Chile!

20180210_1632322134438477.jpg20180210_1630481316262407.jpg

“Perspective changes everything!”

. . .

So, recently I took a trip to Valparaiso, Chile & I had the best day there, just wandering the city! Here’s an “itinerary” of that trip:

1- I took the bus (1 hour) to Valparaiso alone, and didn’t get lost once!

20180210_133642 20180210_191648

2- I explored and wandered the beautiful city of Valparaiso!

20180210_153549 20180210_154844 20180210_155427

3- My eyes were truly open to everything I saw today!

20180210_164212

4- I was completely present in the moment today, which made my adventuring, wandering & exploring so much better!

20180210_163330

5- Like the title & the picture hint: I got perspective thrown at me in multiple ways today!

20180210_163115

. . .

Perspective: The appearance of things relative to one another, as determined by their distance from the viewer.

So, the first picture you saw at the top of this page is a view standing from the top of a staircase in Valparaiso.
And, the next picture you saw at the top of this page is a view of the same staircase, but this time, standing right in front of it (instead of above it).

. . .

You see, this is why perspective is such an important concept because things are always different from where someone is standing.
Just like in life. People see things differently because they’re in different places in their own lives, this means that everyone has a different perspective about some/most things.

Nothing is the same for everyone because we all perceive things differently, which means that we all experience life differently.
That’s perspective! Being different & accepting different perspectives of the same things.

The picture from above the staircase could be someone’s view of that staircase for their entire life. Whereas, the picture in front of the staircase could be someone  else’s view of it for their entire life. But, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t both seeing the same staircase, they are just looking at it from where they are currently standing.
And, most people would be fine with just seeing it from their perspective for their entire life, but, what I’m trying to encourage you to do after reading this post is: to always try and look at things from different perspectives because you never know what you could discover, just by shifting your focus.

“Don’t stay in the same spot for your whole life
(don’t stay at the top of the staircase for your entire life)!
Change your perspective
(come down & look at it from a different perspective)!”

Change your PERSPECTIVE! It might just change EVERYTHING!

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post inspired you to search for a new perspective in your life!

P.S. Valparaiso is truly a beautiful city, & if you’re ever in Chile, I highly recommend taking a trip here to see this beautiful city for yourself! You won’t regret it, it will definitely help you understand the concept of perspective!
