Childlike Simplicity

Forget performance.
Such a beautiful concept
of true love from God!

It’s so amazing
to fully experience
this simplicity.

How can it be real
to display hope, care, and trust
with one simple word?

The simplest form of
true vulnerability
in one simple word.

Just one simple word
is all it takes to display
His deepest nature.

That’s the simple form
of this true love that remains
uncomplicated.

Don’t overthink it.
Childlike simplicity.
That is all it takes.

This poem was inspired by events from my past week at a camp I volunteered at…

Quick backstory:
This camp I’m referring to is for children in the foster care system / from broken homes.
It’s a week for these kids to come as they are, where they can forget their worries / tough lives, and just have fun, while experiencing and being surrounded by this true Love.
So, while getting ready to go to this camp, I was advised to remain strong because these kids could be violent / rude / closed-off from others (especially authority figures).
So, I started the first day with this expectation that I would get hit or yelled at by children

(maybe a little harsh; but I had no idea what to expect).
And, although that did happened a few times (it happened a lot less than I was expecting),
I actually started to see so much love in these kids.
And, I quickly realized that if I operated out of fear / uncertainty around these kids,
they could sense it, and wouldn’t be able to fully trust me.
So, as soon as I just simply started operating with God’s love,
I started seeing so much love in these kids.
A love that was there all along, but was hiding behind brokenness and fear.

And, in that moment, when I saw so much simple love come out of such little people, with so much brokenness and fear, I fully experienced Love in it’s simplest form.
I truly realized that, if these kids (with all they’ve been through) can still have so much love to give; then how much more can I give?

Home…

Home
is not a place
it’s not a bed
what is home?

Home
is the people
the people you love
the people you trust

Home
is in the heart
the feeling of nostalgia
the place of belonging

Home
is individual
and safety
for the body

Home
is collective
and joy
for the heart

Home
is a quest
and a treasure hunt
of the heart

Home
is only found
in others
and self confidence

Home
is coming out of hiding
and seeking wholeheartedly
for that place

Home
is the place
of love, comfort
and belonging

Home
makes the heart
truly filled
with pure joy

“Peoplesick”

So, a few days ago, I had this revelation about home. I was feeling sad, and I couldn’t figure out why because I didn’t really feel homesick, but I couldn’t put it into words. Until I came up with the word “peoplesick”.
You see, I’ve been living in a dorm with 11 other girls for the past 6 months, and these people have truly become like family, and I have felt comfort (like you would at home) with them.
I moved to Australia 6 months ago without knowing anyone, and at first I didn’t know how to feel about living in a 12 girl dorm. But, a few months later, I realized that these girls had become my home here in Australia.
But, here’s where the “peoplesick” part comes in.. A few weeks ago, our school graduated, and everyone had to go back home. And, that took away all the comforts I had built here in Australia (yes, I am still here). I’m still living in the same place, but I am starting a new school, with different people. And, I kept feeling homesick (even though I’m in the same place).
And, that’s when I came up with “peoplesick” because even though I am still living in the same place, all the people I have come to trust and find comfort in have gone home, and I am left with this empty feeling.
So, here’s a poem I wrote to describe this empty feeling:

Hello again
Trust issues
Welcome back

People come
People go
That’s life

It’s difficult
To restart
Every time

But occasionally
With time
People stay

Good things
Take time
And effort

Never let
Some people
Steal joy

Always continue
Building trust
With them

Those people
Will stay
Through everything

They will
Be there
Breaking walls

“People sick”
Equals progress
And growth

Continue growing
And building
With them

People leave
People stay
God remains

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post helped you realize that sometimes homesickness isn’t missing a place, but rather missing the people that gave you comfort and love.
And, when you feel “peoplesick”, it’s actually a good sign because it means that those people have made an impact on you, and they will probably be in your heart & ife for a while.

This is how I fight my battles…

So, I’ve recently gone through a pretty testing season of life. And, I’ve learned that the only way to win battles is to fight them the right way.

But, before I go into the details, here’s a poem I wrote during this past season:

Dear God,
I’m done
I’m giving up
I can’t carry this anymore
I have nothing left
The world couldn’t fill
What I’m searching for
But I still can’t
Seem to find it
Dear God,
Help me
Fight this battle
Take this weight
From my shoulders
It’s killing me
I’m done with the world
I’m done searching
Show me your truth
Reveal your glory to me
Dear God,
Please
Don’t make me wait
Forgive me
Restore me in your love
Fill me with peace
Show me your grace
Help me see you
Be my answer
Dear God,
I’m done searching
For temporary answers
In the world
Because
You are the answer
I’ve been looking for
This whole time
You were there
Waiting for me
To find you
Dear God,
Thank you
For waiting
For me
To come
And find you
In the midst
Of the chaos
You are
And will always
Be near

You see, I used to get really anxious in uncomfortable situations. And, I mean, REALLY anxious; I would bite my nails A LOT, and start to shut down to the people around me. I still currently have no nails while typing this, but they’re growing back, slowly (just like my relationships with some people)…
Anyways, this past season or my life (the past 6 months) have been teaching me a lot about how to fight my battles in a positive, and productive way.

I’ve learned that fighting my battles is impossible alone; my own strength is not enough (that causes me to bite my nails a lot), and even when people help me, they can’t fully win the battle (especially spiritual battles). The only way I can truly win all my battles is by fighting them with God. He is the ultimate protector in my battles, and He gives me everything I need to win all my battles.
And, this song has been an amazing reminder, and encourager for me, so I hope it inspires you as well.

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post was insightful and encouraging to your soul; and that it filled your spirit with a new sense of hope for your battles.

Dirty Hands

Sometimes you gotta put in work!

It might be:

Messy

Gross

Disgusting

Tiring

Frustrating

But, it can also be:

Rewarding

Exciting

Humbling

Learning

Growing

Getting your hands dirty & putting in work might not be glamorous or easy, but it has an amazing reward. Serving others like Jesus is what we are called to do, no matter the cost. It’s what He wants from us.

Thanks for reading! I hope this encouraged you to start putting in work & serving the people around you more because the reward is far greater than the work it takes to get it.

Hasta Luego Argentina!

So, I’m leaving Argentina in a few hours, and I don’t know how to feel. It’s a bittersweet feeling because I’ve lived here for 3 months and I’ve met so many amazing people. I’m really going to miss this country, but I’m also ready to leave with my new found confidence in myself and perspective of the world. So, in my bittersweet moment, I decided to write the following:

Leaving home,

To discover a new country

Is bittersweet.

Sad to leave comfort,

But, excited to discover discomfort.

And, then,

Leaving that new country,

That started to feel like home,

Is even worse,

Because

That country has become home.

It has felt familiar.

So, going home,

Well,

Home is gonna be the same.

But,

With a changed perspective,

And, that’s exciting.

That’s why,

Leaving your new home,

To go back home,

Is bittersweet.

But,

As I leave my new home,

I remember all the good times,

And lessons learned,

And, I feel ready to leave.

I’m ready to discover more new things,

And, learn more lessons,

And, meet more people.

So, with a bittersweet heart,

I say: “See you later!”

To my new home away from home!

Fly!

Super strength or invisibility…
Which one
is the best
superpower?

I don’t know…

I just wish
I could fly!

To get a full view
of the world,
without distractions,
or pressures,
from surrounding sources.

To just
see
the world.

No one to tell me
How,
or
What,
or
Where,
to look.

Oh, how I wish
I could fly!

To be free!
To feel
Complete freedom
from everything
Down here
There are too many restrictions & distractions!

Oh, how I wish
I could fly!

To better understand
the people in the world.
To get their attention,
and show them
and tell them
that they can wish
to fly,
one day too.

Oh, how I wish

Let’s show people that they CAN make a difference!
No matter their situation.
They have the ability to do something to change their life!

YOU have the ability to change your life,
while also helping something realize their full potential.

That’s what we should strive for in life!
To help people realize their full potential!
Don’t just focus on your success;
That’s just stupid and selfish!
There’s WAY more than enough of it to go around!

True success is not measured by how much you achieve,
but by how many people you help along the way!

“People walk in, and out of your life!”

That’s just how it is.
Sometimes there’s no good reason.
It just…well…happens…

People will leave.
You won’t get any warning,
Or explanation.

They won’t tell you why.
They just leave without talking.
And, then it’s over.

You get confused.
And, you feel sad for a bit.
You kind of shut down.

Why let people in –
If they’re just gonna leave?
..Don’t know what to do..

But, after some time,
Life moves on, and you restart –
Succeed without them.

New people come in,
And, you learn lessons from them,
And, then they leave too.

That’s just how life goes.
People come in, then they leave.
That’s just how life cycles.

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post helped you realize that the journey of your life is based on the people you meet along the way! And, not all of them are there to stay forever, so don’t get mad or sad when people leave, something better will come of it.

Glow-up…

What happened to you?
Something seems so different…
Explain it to me?

Something has changed…
Can’t put my finger on it…
What could it be?

I like the old you.
Is this some sort of phase?
When will you be done?

. . .

I’ve simply changed…
I learned some life lessons,
I’ve gone through a lot.

Life isn’t the same.
I see things differently.
Times change people.

I like this new me.
It’s a great version of me.
From learning and growth.

This is my glow-up.
I do not care what you think.
I like this new me!

Maybe it’s your turn –
You should try this great “new thing”.
It’s called “growing-up”.

Earth + 7.6 billion people = Small world?

“It’s a big world out there!”
.
“Wow, what a small world!”
.
^ Two very different sayings that, somehow, both make sense!
Here’s a “poem” that I wrote, trying to explain that fact:

The world is huge
There’s only ONE world
But, it’s a BIG world

7.6 billion people
On ONE “small” planet
And you haven’t even met half of them!

Think about that!

7.6 billion!
And you’re here..
In your “small” town,
With MUCH less than a half a tenth of 7.6 billion!

The world is NOT small!
In fact,
It’s the complete opposite!
It’s GIGANTIC!

So, TRAVEL!
At least once!
In your entire lifetime!

Take a plane,
To a foreign country –
Meet new people,
Experience a different culture,
Smell different fresh air,
Feel different heat,
Experience a different way of life!

The other side of the world –
Does not need to be scary.
It can be interesting,
And super exciting!

So, TRAVEL!
And, then –
You’ll finally realize –
The real size of the world!

7.6 billion people!
In this “small” –
But, GIGANTIC world!

How is that possible?
That 7.6 billion people can –
Make this world feel small?

The only way to understand this –
Is to go to a foreign country,
And, meet some of those 7.6 billion people!

Thanks for reading!

If 7.6 billion people can live on this planet in “perfect” harmony, I think the world is pretty big! And, all I want to do is travel and meet as many of them as possible, to find out how similar we all really are on this planet we all call earth.

Harsh life lesson…

So, recently I learned, more like experienced, a not so fun situation. It was an experience that taught me a pretty harsh life lesson (or at least, that’s what I thought at first).
I always knew deep down that these days existed, but for some reason, when it finally happened, it hit me hard.

. . .

So, I was just walking around minding my own business, when I saw someone I knew, but it had been a while since we spoke. And, I was about to wave at them to say “hey!” (You know, to be friendly as to not completely ignore them). But, right as I was about to wave, I saw them make a complete 180′ literally 3 feet in front of me.

. . .

This was a weird experience for many reason because at first I just thought, “maybe they had somewhere to be”. But, then I realized that they obviously saw me when they turned exactly at the time when we saw each other because the way they turned to walk away was towards a dead end.
So, it was clear they were avoiding me. But, why?

. . .

I asked myself why for a few hours after it happened. But, eventually, I learned that I should let it go because it’s just part of life.

“People walk in & out of our lives!”

You don’t know when they will come, or when they will leave.
All you know is that they came, & now they’re gone.
So, all you can do now is remember all the things they taught you.

Surroundings… (Weekend Coffee Share)

Have you ever just sat somewhere and just observed your surroundings?

. . .

Ya, me neither.
…Until a few hours ago…

And, that’s what I’m gonna talk about in this weekend’s coffee share because a few days ago I saw this one-word prompt idea, and the word was surroundings. So, during that day, I couldn’t help but observe my surroundings. And, here’s what I noticed:

. . .

1- I was just sitting on the bus, when I realized that I never actually notice my surroundings. I’m usually just looking out the window, listening to music & waiting to arrive at my stop; just like most of the people I’m noticing right now.

2- I’m seeing all these people on the bus, heading to different places, with a different purpose.
They’re all, either, reading the newspaper, reading a book, texting, listening to music, sleeping, eating breakfast, etc.

3- I’m hearing some people talk about their week, if they know each other from seeing each other everyday.

4- I’m realizing that we are all sitting (or standing, if it’s crowded) on this bus for the same reason (to get somewhere).

5- All I can really understand is that we all need to get somewhere, & we don’t want to drive, or we don’t own a car.

6- I feel weird watching people because no one really interacts (except for the handful of people that do). But, I guess everyone is in their own world, so they won’t even notice someone starring at them (I’m not really starring, just glancing at people around me). They probably don’t even know I’m looking at them.

7- From watching everyone, I’m starting to just realize that we’re all just tired from our day & we just want to get home (Or it’s too early to interact with other humans).

All this, noticing my surroundings in this bus, got me thinking; What if the bus was free, & the only catch was that you had to talk to someone until your stop (at least just say hi)?

Just for some insight…
Where I live, the bus cost is $2.50. And, most people take the bus twice a day (to and from work), at least 5 to 6 days per week. That’s $25-$30 dollars every week. Which adds up to $100-$120 dollars per month.

So, in other words, everyone on this bus spends around $100 every month to sit and stare out the window. But, I now realize that it’s cheaper than gas for your car; and you’re technically saving the environment.

So, observing my surroundings made me realize that even though everyone seems to just be sitting in their own little bubble on the bus waiting to get to their stop, they are all contributing to saving the environment. And with gas prices now, they are actually saving money.

So, everyone I’ve observed on this bus actually have more in common than I thought.

Thanks for reading!
I hope this post was insightful and gave you some food for thought about perspective on the little & overlooked things in life.

*Your surroundings are important; don’t overlook them; they can teach you a lot!*

“Don’t listen to what they say. Go see”

If you’re even remotely considering traveling abroad, just go.

  • Don’t ask people for their opinion, unless they’ve been to that country and they love traveling, or else you will get discouraged before you even book your ticket.
Go form your own opinion while being in your chosen country!
  • And, although it is a good idea to be informed about the country you are going to, don’t watch too much news about that country.
News people love to create a good story, so chances are they’re exaggerating some of the details.
  • Be informed, but keep some learning for when you arrive in the country.
Don’t learn everything before you go because learning abroad is much more fun and rewarding.
  • You also need to pick a country that you really want to visit, so no one can discourage you from going.
  • And, then, don’t think about it too much, just go see for yourself because anything anyone says is a biased opinion about their experiences or thoughts about that country.
You will probably (most definitely) have a completely different experience.
  • Lastly, travel is a personal decision and only you can decide if you want to or not because only you will be changed in your own specific way in the country you choose.
    It’s your adventure!
But, one thing that I can say from experience is, that once you decide to go see another country, you will never be able to un-see it. The experience of traveling and exploring that country will stay with you forever. Luckily, it’s an amazing experience and the memories will will leave you wanting to travel even more!

So, as the picture says:

Don’t listen to what they say!
Go see for yourself!
Go travel and explore a new & different country!

I hope this post inspired you to travel and experience something new!

The world around me…

So, for today’s post, I decided to observe the most popular place of the town where I’m currently living.

. . .

So, I’m just sitting here in the middle of “La Plaza de Armas” in Quillota, Chile, eating manjar ice cream in 30 degree Celsius weather, in the middle of January.

. . .

It’s currently summer here in Chile which means everyone is either, enjoying their vacation or just continuing with their work and daily life.
But, either way, for me, the following is what I’m observing and hearing:

  • People getting off work
  • People walking with their families/friends
  • People shopping
  • Kids playing, laughing, running, swinging, etc.
  • People taking naps under the palm trees
  • Music playing
  • People selling things (like, ice cream)
  • People dancing
  • People performing
  • Birds chirping
  • Taxis and buses honking

Those are all just regular everyday things, but sometimes the simple things can be the most interesting; I’ve just learned a lot about the culture of this country by people watching and writing this post.
And, I know, I know, those are just normal things you would observe in any town during the summer but, what makes it different to me, is that it’s all happening in Spanish (and the fact it’s summer in January).

Below I’ve included a few pictures of my current surroundings:

Learning…

day7-tweet5

For the record: I don’t know the person that posted the previous tweet, but I very much agree with it.
Here’s why:

. . .

As a high school and college graduate, I do think education is important to start your life by learning the basics.
But, as a traveler, I know that I still have a lot to learn. And, the more I travel, the more this reveals itself to me more and more every day.

You see, I’ve realized that once you start to travel to different countries in the world, you will truly realize that all those things you learned in school were average knowledge to get you started with your life.

. . .

This is why I started to travel and write in this blog; because I wanted to encourage people to travel and always keep exploring and learning, no matter how smart they think they are. There’s always something out there in the world that you can learn (it’s big enough, you’ll find something).

. . .

Now, I’m not saying that you should quit school and just travel (don’t do that).
What I’m saying is: Don’t think that just because you have the best diploma out there means you know everything.
Think about it this way: “If you can’t speak every language in the world, you still have a lot to learn.” (that’s a little exaggerated, but you get the point).

The Train Station

For today’s post, I was given an image to form a thought about, and write whatever came to mind. So, my thought when seeing the picture above was: “Life is like a train station!”.

. . .

A train station: A place where people just get off one train to get on another train to get to another destination. But, is that are they are? No.

Yes, some of the people here, you will get to meet, and others will remain strangers. And, most people dislike train stations because they’re boring or too crowded, but I think they play an important role in your journey to your final destination (you don’t have to wait to arrive at your destination to learn something).

. . .

You don’t know where people are coming from, or where they’re going, but, they had an important role to play in your journey, and you played an important role in their journey.

You see… in train stations:
You’re just coming from somewhere to go to a different destination.
And, you meet different/specific people along the way.
And, you learn different lessons.
And then, life keeps moving.

But, even though life keeps moving, that train station was an important stop-over in your journey to your next great destination.

Thanks for reading!
Remember: Stop-overs are important steps in your journey to your final destination!
